Grandmothers' for Refugees and Friends of Grandmothers (FROGS) are an Australia wide organisation advocating for the human rights of refugees and asylum seekers held in both offshore and onshore detention by the Australian Government with no hope of resettlement in our country.

The original focus of our group was children in detention, but this has now broadened to families and individuals denied entry to Australia or family reunion. We feel vulnerable people who have no hope of returning to their own country and have no future here are being denied their basic human rights.

We believe these people would enhance our society like other migrant groups before them. Arriving by boat due to war or persecution should not make these vulnerable people exempt from becoming worthy of our protection and inclusion.

Our values are respect, compassion, hope, fairness, care ,equality, courage and honesty. The Upwey/Foothills branch of the Labor party also believes in upholding these values.

Grandmothers groups are aligned by federal electorate and Casey has a strong active group who continually fight to bring the issue to political and community attention by participating in varied activities such as weekly protests in Belgrave and Knox, ringing, writing and lobbying federal and state MPs, media contact, petitions at local markets and events and organisation of forums to raise public awareness.

We would value your support in any way that you are able to help this vulnerable group of human beings.
